Irish Wild Man Conor McGregor Wins UFC 194 in Record Time
McGregor won the belt by meeting Aldo near the center of the octagon. McGregor’s swaggering act had drawn the ire-or at least eye-rolls-from fellow fighters and some UFC fans, many of whom surely hoped Aldo would put a stop to the yapping. McGregor pounced, only to be pulled off in his fifth consecutive knockout victory. If you can see it, and have the courage enough to speak it, it will happen, I see these shots, I see the sequences and I don’t shy away from them. “There is no doubt now”.
It marked Aldo’s first loss in 10 years and extended McGregor’s win streak to 15 fights.
“Precision beats power, and timing beats speed”, McGregor said.
“I’m not considering leaving the featherweight division for good because I am the unified champion”. And the crowd-many of them Irish McGregor fans who’d journeyed to Vegas to see their countryman do his thing-went nuts.
UFC 194 is officially over, and depending on who you were rooting for, the outcome may have been fantastic or disappointing.
But that doesn’t fall in line with McGregor’s plans. The Irishman targeted the imperious Brazilian champion with a steady stream of trash talk and entertaining antics, infuriating Aldo while making himself into a pay-per-view draw and arguably the UFC’s second-biggest star behind Rousey.
Maybe there’ll be time for Aldo later, McGregor said, but for now he’s moving on. He’s also coming off an electric first round KO win over Chad Mendes on Friday night. That can happen to anyone in a combat sport, and Aldo is is right that the main event of UFC 194 wasn’t really a fight.
Aldo called for a rematch before leaving the cage but the new champion won’t be so quick to grand such a request, if at all.
And McGregor said: ‘I’m catching up [with Mayweather]. White then backtracked and left open the possibility for McGregor to face Edgar, but said Aldo would “face someone else”. “We just want to have a good time”, McGregor said.
“I’m confident going forward that nobody can take what I bring”, he warned.
The fight was almost stopped in the third round when Rockhold pounded his opponent with a series of elbows.
Other UFC fighters were not so cavalier in their response. So, I enjoy options, you know.
Weidman had been champion since he defeated Anderson Silva at UFC 162 in July, 2013. It’s unclear how the UFC will feel about that wish. “It’s going to be a green Christmas in Las Vegas, that’s for sure”.
