IS claims bomb hidden in soda can for downing Russian airliner
The latest edition of the terror magazine Dabiq, has explained why Islamic State made a decision to plant a bomb on the passenger plane which was brought down in Egypt on October 31. They claimed that the explosives were smuggled inside taking advantage of the security in the Sharm el-Sheikh global Airport.
The authenticity of the images has not been verified.
“The divided Crusaders of the East and West thought themselves safe in their jets as they cowardly bombarded the Muslims of the Caliphate”, the ISIS magazine said, referring to Russian Federation, the United States, and the West. “And so revenge was exacted upon those who felt safe in the cockpits”, it added, reported Reuters. Traces of explosives have been found in the wreckage, which included passengers’ belongings and parts of the plane.
Since the downing of the jet, the United Kingdom banned flights to Sharm el-Sheikh and Russian banned all flights to Egypt a day later. “That their daily killing of dozens in (Syria) through their air strikes will only bring them calamities”.
And in an image on the final page of the magazine, ISIS claims to have executed a Chinese and a Norwegian captive.
“While the Egyptian-led investigation has not officially concluded, we assess it is likely that this was an ISIL terrorist attack”, a White House official said in a statement.
The apparent similarities, the detonator and switch suggested the soda can device was on a timer, rather than operated by a suicide bomber, suggested a similar chain of events on the Russian airliner, a few experts said.
Mr Welch, who is now the Senior Explosives Officer with Bomb Disposal firm Ramora United Kingdom, said: “The damage caused would be quite significant given the pressure caused by the explosion and the close confines within an aircraft”. The Russians say it contained about two pounds of TNT.
Putin has since offered a $50 million-reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the bombing of Metrojet Flight 9268 that took the lives of 224 people. Putin called the attack “one of the bloodiest crimes” and vowed to crush those responsible for the act, according to Associated Press, “We’re going to look for them everywhere wherever they are hiding”.
The Islamic State group said Wednesday it had smuggled a bomb on board a Russian airliner that went down last month, after discovering a “way to compromise the security” at an Egyptian airport.
