IS claims to be holding Norwegian, Chinese captives
It doesn’t say when or the place the 2 have been captured. IS claim China “abandoned” Fan by refusing to pay the ransom for his release.
Solberg went on to say that her government’s goal is “to get our citizen home”, but added, “Let me be very clear, this is a very demanding case”.
In Oslo, Prime Minister Erna Solberg confirmed a Norwegian citizen was being held, and insisted that “Norway does not pay ransoms”.
‘We can not give in and won’t give in to pressure from terrorists and criminals.
However, Solberg stressed that Norway was not willing to pay a ransom, CNN reported. “We can only appeal to the hostage-takers to free our son and brother”, the family of Ole Johan Grimsgaard-Ofstad, 48, said in a statement relayed by Norwegian authorities.
It identified the Chinese hostage as Fan Jinghui, a 50-year-old consultant.
Fan, a freelancer in the advertising industry, said he taught high school for six years after graduating from college, then worked as a personal assistant to a producer at CCTV, China’s state broadcaster.
The group and its affiliates in other areas have also posted other gory footage of executions, including mass killings of Christian hostages.
Salopek was executed on August 12.
“Unfortunately, the attention of the organisation are now getting in Norway be just what they want”.
The PDFs of the magazine do not reveal where the hostages are. Besides their names, the dates of birth and addresses of both men were provided.
The picture of the Chinese man released by IS shows him with a swollen left eye in a yellow attire. He’s believed to have entered over a border crossing in southwestern Turkey and traveled in Syrian government-controlled areas until he was kidnapped.
He also posted links to several ISIS-related news stories over the past months.
Before his departure from Norway, Grimsgaard-Ofstad called Norwegian United Nations veteran Terje Sæterbø for advice.
The ransom page lists his occupation as Candidate for Masters in Political Science.
