Is Donald Glover Beefing With Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool
At least, he was until earlier this week, when it was announced that Glover and his brother Stephen had left the FX and Marvel series. It is unclear yet whether Marvel TV and ABC Studios will continue to pursue the project (with or without the Glovers).
Donald Glover certainly has a lot on his plate, but now some weight has been lifted as he and FX have made a decision to part ways from the planned Deadpool animated TV series that he and his brother were set to write and executive produce. “FX will no longer be involved with the project”.
Although “creative differences” were cited as the reason both parties called it quits, FX issued a statement assuring its “ongoing relationship” with Marvel.
Mr. Glover’s script also uses the main character to wonder if the rift with FX was caused by creative jabs at Marvel Entertainment. The series even got a 10 episode order, so there wasn’t anything to be anxious about. The announcement came after Glover and his current FX project, Atlanta, racked up big-time during award’s season. Season 2 of Atlanta wrapped filming last December.
And Donald is voicing Simba for Disney’s upcoming Lion King live-action remake, now in production.
Glover gave people a taste of what they’re missing by sharing an apparent script for an episode, in which the anti-hero breaks the fourth wall and blatantly ponders why the series was canceled. Along the way, there are plenty of shots taken at Marvel. As you read through the thread, it’s clear that this show wasn’t holding anything back, which is exactly what fans of Deadpool have always wanted. Judging by the references, which include fluctuating Bitcoin prices, the game Fortnite, rapper 6ix9ine‘s unsavory reputation, and the rumor that Sanaa Lathan bit Beyoncé, Glover had to have written this thing in the last 24 hours.
The script (titled “Finale”) deals with Deadpool taking a mercenary job in Kenya, Africa in order to protect a rhino named Sudan, a rather timely story considering the last male white rhino just died.
So as you can see, there are plenty of jokes to go around, and if you don’t get one, there is probably another one tied into it somewhere.
But if Marvel (Television) didn’t know before, it surely knows now.
