Is Emma Stone America’s New Sweetheart?
Emma Stone didn’t hold back with reporters backstage after a shocking Oscars ceremony that saw “La La Land” win best picture only to have “Moonlight” be announced as the true victor.
“There’s a mistake. “Moonlight” you guys won best picture”, Jordan Horowitz declared, stunning all who attended the event at the Dolby Theater.
Initially, presenter Warren Beatty insisted he had been given the wrong card to read from when he and Faye Dunaway presented the award and read out “La La Land’ as the victor”.
No surprise here: Emma Stone won Best Lead Actress during Sunday’s Academy Awards.
Also winning for actress Emma Stone, “La La Land” was the only movie to earn more than three statues (“Moonlight” won for picture, adapted screenplay and supporting actor).
Here’s what Emma said when she met the journalist backstage, “I f***ing love “Moonlight!’ God, I love “Moonlight” so much!” “I wasn’t trying to be amusing”. Leo had just presented Emma with the Best Actress Oscar and social media assumed he had dumped the envelope he was carrying in such a manner that it ended up with Warren Beatty. It’s also what many have christened as the moment Gosling realized he was the only one from the movie going home empty-handed. “But to hell with dreams, I’m done with it because this is true”.
It takes almost an hour after the start of the Academy Awards for the first winners to make their way backstage, shiny gold Oscars in their hands, and unlike most years, it’s not the supporting actor or actress, whose categories always open the show. “But we are so excited for ‘Moonlight.’ I think it is one of the best films of all time”. We take different routes to get there just because of the kinds of things that can happen in L.A. traffic. “Emma’s category [Best Actress] comes up late in the night, so I wanted to make sure the color could last. I don’t mean to start stuff but whatever story that was – I have that card”, she said. I need to, you know, check in. “I liked that because it gave us a starting point to begin to unravel it a little bit and maybe show new sides to it”. A unusual happening for Oscar history. “You always have something to say and you’re never at a loss for words”, the actress said.
