Is “Fresh Prince” coming back?
The box-office superstar will reportedly serve as an executive producer of a Fresh Prince reboot, already in early development. Should the project move forward, Smith would act as an executive producer on the series alongside his various Overbrook partners James Lassiter, Caleeb Pinkett, and Jada Pinkett-Smith.
According to TV Line, Will Smith, whose career was launched by the show, has signed on to produce the revival.
Would you watch a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot? Reports suggest the series will be a whole new storyline set in the present day. This is a story all about how the things you loved in your childhood got flip-turned upside down and turned into something new.
Sources say Smith’s production company Overbrook Entertainment has just started working on a revamp on the classic show that will be a present-day reboot. Perhaps they’ll take our (very obvious) suggestion and have Jaden inherit his dad’s throne? Which leaves so many important questions unanswered: Is it going to be a completely new version with a, well, fresh cast or will it be a weird continuation like Fuller House?
Alfonso Ribeiro, better known as Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air, will also be in the jungle. Its popularity has far outlasted its actual run; almost 20 years later, reruns still play regularly on cable television.
According to TV Line, Smith’s production company, Overbrook, is now finalizing the pitch for the new show and will then begin shopping it around to networks. The star of the original series, Will Smith, will be returning to the series but not in a starring role.
