Is Man. United’s van Gaal looking over shoulder for Mourinho?
Louis van Gaal hinted after United’s feeble 0-2 loss at Stoke City on Saturday that he could quit before being forced to relinquish the hot seat and the game against Chelsea, managed by his Dutch compatriot Guus Hiddink, could well be his last.
Van Gaal also conceded he does not know if he can motivate his squad any more, after United slumped to a fourth straight defeat against Stoke on Saturday.
“At half-time, I said to my players we have nothing to lose, and then you can cope better with that in the second half”.
Louis van Gaal will lead Manchester United against Chelsea tonight but the match could prove to be the Dutchman’s last as manager after it emerged that he has serious doubts over whether he can continue in his position.
The former Chelsea man is also gushing about Alex Ferguson, explaining: “I never felt rivalry…I always felt a very nice person doing the best he could”. Diego Costa struck twice, either side of Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo’s goals for the Hornets but a fifth yellow card of the season for the Spaniard will see him miss the trip to Manchester United. Before that they played in October 2014 and the game ended in a 1 – 1 draw.
“These players have fantastic spirit”.
“We lost too many challenges, they were sharper than us, and we were a bit unlucky as well”, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said.
“I trust my players to respond well on Monday”.
Manchester City, in third place, crushed lowly Sunderland 4-1 but suffered a blow when captain Vincent Kompany limped off with a calf injury, having come on as a substitute following an eight-match absence.
At White Hart Lane Harry Kane scored twice as Tottenham beat Norwich 3-0.
“I hope we have Kun (Aguero) 100 percent fit next week”, said Pellegrini. “He will be 100 percent on Tuesday”. The Curacao global struck from 30 yards to open the scoring before Long and Fonte added second half goals to down the Gunners, who remain two points behind leaders Leicester City.
Aston Villa remains bottom and Remi Garde is still searching for a first win as manager after a 1-1 draw against West Ham. Chelsea though have been just as poor in recent weeks so instead of taking aside I am going to take the draw, I see these two as canceling each other out here and a draw is the most likely outcome here.
Newcastle manager Steve McClaren admitted that he faced a struggle to rouse his players after they succumbed to a 93rd-minute Tom Cleverley header in a 1-0 home defeat by Everton.
