Is the headphone jack leaving the iPhone?
Instead of using a 3.5 mm jack, headphones would be plugged into the iPhone 7’s Lightning (charging) port, using a DA (Digital to Analog) converter, which will allegedly be incorporated in the phone.
Apple, according to sources, working to develop a new Lightning connector supporting Lightning-equipped headphones.
Apple preferred to have a lightning connector along with earpods for iPhone 7 and upcoming iOS devices.
In place of the headphone jack will be an audio-enabled lightning port, which will allow owners to use the lightning-enabled earbuds that will come packed in.
This tiny socket has a tiny diameter of just 2mm rather than the current 3.5mm. This would let Apple slim down the next iPhone even further for about 1mm thinner than the iPhone 6s, which has a 7.1mm thickness. To use this, a 3.5mm to Lightning adapter would be required. According to a source close to Apple, the company plans to remove the traditional headset jack from the next iPhone 7.
As the iPhone 6s looks set to bring a lot of sales to Apple this year, the company is gearing up for the launch of next year’s iPhone 7 which is due in September.
But that’s par for the course at Apple, where Chief Executive Tim Cook has faithfully preserved the late Steve Jobs’s obsession with creating ever-thinner hardware products.
The 3.5mm headphone jack is a global standard for smartphones and tablets. Headphones requiring battery power could be charged by the phone, according to the report. The newest iPhone model is said to be abandoning the headphone jack.
While this report has yet to be corroborated, it would be interesting to ponder whether this would really affect all Apple devices, as well as any kind of headphones in general.
In addition, the tech giant is also building EarPods supporting headphones and Bluetooth.
