Is There a New Way to Get Zika?
On Friday, July 15, 2016, the CDC said a New York City woman infected her male partner with Zika virus through sex, the first time female-to-male transmission of the germ has been documented.

The man, who was not identified, was not hospitalized and is recovering from his symptoms, according to a Health Department statement. In most people, the virus causes a mild illness at worst. Last week, the CDC reported the first known case in which a woman spread the virus to a man through sexual contact. That person had become infected with Zika after going to an area of the world where the virus is spreading.
Utah health officials have confirmed a new case of the Zika virus in Utah Monday.
Investigators are doing more interviewing and testing other family members and health-care workers who may have been in close contact with the man who died.
A Utah resident who died after contracting Zika from travel overseas may have spread the virus to a family contact who did not leave the country, raising troubling questions about a possible new route of transmission of the mosquito-borne virus, state and federal officials said Monday.
Authorities also said there is no evidence to show mosquitoes that carry Zika are now in Utah.
“As far as people who know about the virus, I don’t think it will deter them from traveling”, said Matthew Israel of Anna Maria Island Water Sports.
The now-deceased individual also had “unusually high” levels of virus in the blood, according to Dunn, which she said makes this case “a unique situation”. Zika wasn’t discovered until after the patient had died in late June, and officials would not name his other illness.
The CDC has dispatched an Emergency Response Team (CERT), including infection control, virology, mosquito control, disease investigation and health communications experts, to work in conjunction with the Utah Department of Health to help investigate this “unusual” case of Zika transmission.
Latham said people should continue to take precautionary measures, making sure they are not leaving standing water and protecting themselves from mosquitoes by using repellants.
The virus is known to be transmitted by bites from infected mosquitoes, sexual contact or blood transfusions, and can be passed from a mother to a fetus. But it is mostly spread by mosquitoes.
She went to her doctor three days after her return, after developing common Zika symptoms such as fever, fatigue, rash and back pain.
