ISIS affiliated group in Gaza claims rocket attack on Israel
After two rockets were let go from Gaza towards Israel late on Sunday night, the Israeli Air Force reacted by focusing on dread foundation having a place with Hamas in the northern piece of the waterfront Palestinian region, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said.
According to local reports, the aerial bombing hit a training site in central Gaza of the military wing of the Hamas organization known as the al-Qassam Brigades.
However, Israel maintains that Hamas is fully responsible for any attacks coming from the territory under its control, and is not hesitating to launch retaliatory strikes on Gaza.
A few minutes later, rocket sirens were sounded in the Nahal Oz and Alumim communities.
A swap deal was reached between Israel and Palestinians in 2011 to free Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. According to Haaretz, the facility was severely damaged but no injuries were reported.
Last week, the Israeli Air Force carried out a series of air strikes in the Gaza Strip in response to a rocket fired from the Palestinian enclave which was shot down by the Iron Dome anti-missile system over the southern city of Ashdod.
Salafist militants claiming links to the Islamic State group have said they were behind recent rocket fire from Gaza, but Israel holds Hamas responsible for all such incidents.
The news comes amid escalating violence in Jerusalem and the West Bank after Israeli troops entered the holy Muslim site of al-Aqsa mosque in the Palestinian East Jerusalem.
Hamas arrested members of the group following past rocket attacks, and has stepped up attempts to enforce the August 2014 truce with Israel.
