ISIS militants launch new attacks in eastern Afghanistan
Seven armed militants were killed after NATO-led coalition forces launched airstrikes in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Nangarhar overnight, the provincial government said on Friday.
The local officials disclosed that at least 15 civilians were also wounded during the clashes and were shifted to the nearest hospital for treatment.
The operations were conducted in Kot district involving security personnel from different security institutions, including army, police, and the Afghan Air Force, MoD added.
“They kill people, regardless of whether they’re a child or a woman”.
As many as 25 homes had been burned down in Kowt district, and five civilians were reported kidnapped, Nangarhar officials said.
The Islamic State group is banned in Russian Federation and numerous other countries.
He told the Reuters news agency: “They should be accountable for every drop of blood that has been shed in Nangarhar so it becomes a lesson to other officials”.
Afghanistan has been mired in a war against Islamist insurgents for decades.
No coalition forces have been involved in the latest fighting, spokesman Commander Ron Flesvig said.
Earlier this month President Barack Obama ordered the USA military to tackle the resurgent Taliban more directly – in tandem with Afghan allies, ratcheting up a 15-year conflict he had vowed to end. Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said the strikes occurred in southern Afghanistan, but he did not provide additional details.
