Islamic preacher with alleged IS links taken into custody
Police today arrested a youth, who have suspected links with Islamic States (IS) and also accused in a case charged by Mumbai police.According to police sources, they arrested Muhammed Haneef (26) of Kambalakkad in Wayanad district.
Kannur: Police have nabbed one person in Kannur for suspected links with the terrorist outfit Islamic State. Paramban Majeed, who runs a guest house in Dongri, alleged that his son, Ashfaq, joined ISIS after being radicalised and indoctrinated by four people: Abdul Rashid, a teacher of Peace International School in Kerala; Haneef; Arshid Qureshi; and Rizwan Khan, both associated with the Islamic Research Foundation of Zakir Naik.
The accused, Mohammed Hanif, was brought to the city and produced before a court which sent him to police custody till August 20, a senior police official said.
They include four women and three children.
Last week Abdulla, a native of Cheenapadi, Kasaragod was reported missing for the past six months and his relatives had lodged a complaint with the police.
The Kerala Police, probing a similar case filed by the brother of one Merin alias Mariyam, who is among the 21 youths who fled the country, had arrested Qureshi and Khan in July.
Police said another accused named in the FIR was still at large and efforts were being made to arrest him. The Mumbai crime branch had started investigating the case and a team reached Kerala two days ago for the same. The Mumbai crime branch, along with the Kerala police, is trying to find out if the accused radicalised others.
