Islamic State Terrorists Armed With U.S. Weapons
The first is to maintain and gain terrority in Iraq and Syria, where ISIS has the greatest power, the second is to expand its’ influence in North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia and the third is to create a terror campaign in the West, she says.
U.S. military issue M16 rifles, Austrian and Russian sniper rifles and Chinese and Belgian machine guns are also among the weapons being used by the terrorists.
According to the human rights defender, the arsenal used to commit atrocities in Iraq and Syria comes from more than two dozen countries, including the United States and European Union countries.
Amnesty report details how the fighters obtained bulk of arsenal from poorly secured Iraqi military stocks. In his speech Sunday, Obama offered no new ideas on any of those fronts, saying only that air strikes, special operations forces and allied assistance would continue to be deployed.
The Mobile congressman said he would have liked to have seen Obama explain what the strategy is to combat ISIS on social media, which the extremist group uses to recruit followers.
“It is the improvised weapons and explosives that IS are using that has caused the most casualties in Kurdish peshmerga forces and is a really serious problem”, he said, using an alternative acronym for ISIL.
The ISIS is being armed by the very countries that are vowing to destroy them, a report from the Amnesty International says.
Amnesty International found that the quantity and range of ISIS’ arms and ammunition “ultimately reflects decades of irresponsible arms transfers to Iraq and multiple failures by the U.S.-led occupation administration to manage arms deliveries and stocks securely, as well as endemic corruption in Iraq itself”.
“At the same time, the broader American community has a responsibility to make clear that we’re gonna work with Muslim Americans to protect our country and to protect those in their community that are at risk of being radicalised”, the presidential spokesman said. The U.S. price tag: $5 billion since August 2014.
However, while responding to the report, the Pentagon admitted that these monitoring programs don’t apply to United States weapons and equipment that is lost on the battlefield.
Jeb Bush, who’s been barely able to contain his disdain for Obama’s foreign policy, was asked on MSNBC yesterday about specific elements of the president’s anti-ISIS policy.
“This must include assessing if military and security units are capable of effectively controlling stockpiles and abide by global human rights and humanitarian standards”, the researcher added.
Oliver Sprague, Amnesty UK’s Arms Programme Director, said: “Decades of free-flowing arms into Iraq meant that when IS took control of these areas, they were like children in a sweetshop”.
Wilcken said the U.S-made and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation equipment in ISIL’s hands was a result of arms transfers made to Iraq since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.
Arms and ammunition used by IS have been traced to at least 25 different countries, the report claims.
“He needed to persuade people that our fears will subside when we’re engaged actively in the destruction of ISIS, and from there you would have a strategy that would be much more comprehensive”, said Bush.
