Israel bans Islamic Movement in Palestine
“The only thing that changed is the political extremism of Netanyahu and his government”. Most do not have health insurance to protect them from work-related accidents and it is estimated that 93% do not have labour unions to represent them: they are subject to arbitrary dismissal and withholding of their permits if they demand their rights or try to unionize.
The attackers have mainly been young Palestinians who appear to be acting on their own, frustrated with Israel’s occupation, a frozen peace process and the leadership of Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas, whose calls for peaceful resistance they have ignored.
Netanyahu has attached conditions to the creation of a Palestinian state, including Palestinian recognition of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people. That is a very risky development.
Only a fortnight ago, the Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz reported that a year-long investigation by Israel’s domestic intelligence service, the Shin Bet, had been unable to find security grounds for closing the organisation. The accusations suggesting Sheikh Raed Salah and Haneen Zoabi are somehow responsible for the wave of stabbing attacks are ludicrous.
Since the unrest erupted in mid-September, 14 Israelis have been killed in attacks by Palestinians, while 82 Palestinians have been killed, 52 of them said to be attackers and the rest killed in clashes between troops and demonstrators.
MK Haneen Zoabi sits alongside members of the Joint List during a Supreme Court hearing on her disqualification from the Knesset. But, as Israel’s largest trading partner, the EU’s guidelines on labelling do not fully meet its moral and legal obligations.
The Islamic Movement was founded in the 1970s as both a political party and a provider of religious and welfare services. Balad has the support, or at least the appreciation, of a lot of the Palestinian intelligentsia in Israel.
Another political leader who showed moral clarity in his statements about the massacre in Paris was Democratic Senator Chuck Shumer. The annexation is not internationally recognized, and the Palestinians claim east Jerusalem as the capital of a future state. That they accept the state in practice, that they interact with its institutions and follow its laws is the best thing the Jews could hope for. This activity has led to a significant increase in tension on the Temple Mount.
News of the decision came a week after Mr Netanyahu held talks in the White House with U.S. president Barack Obama in which the right-wing Israeli leader publicly reaffirmed his commitment to a two-state solution to the conflict with Palestinians. Quite the contrary, he stoked the campaign by falsely claiming that Israel is executing Palestinian children on the “pretext” that they’re stabbing Jews. “This is exactly what the Islamic Movement [is] doing”.
Erdan said, “The Islamic Movement, Hamas, [Islamic State] and other terror organizations have a joined platform which brings about terror around the world as well as the wave of terror in Israel”.
Half a million Palestinians are now deprived from the social aids, which have been given by the Islamic Movement, said Salah.
But the worst part about banning the Northern Branch this week was the complete consensus behind it – the exact same consensus that formed around efforts to disqualify Haneen Zoabi from running for office. The Labor party not only participated in the foolishness, it complained that it didn’t happen sooner.
Despite the presence of a peace treaty between the governments of Israel and Jordan, former Israeli ambassador to Jordan Oded Eran noted, “Most of the [Jordanian] professional associations-journalists, doctors, lawyers-all of them [are] anti-Israel”.
“In the interview referred to, no implication or reference was made that implied that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict had any relevance for the tragic events in Paris. Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said he would take the matter to the global Criminal Court (ICC)”. “We’ve been fighting for our lives for 100 years”. The Saudis have been criticized by a few human rights groups for civilian casualties resulting from the bombings in Yemen. “The people of Israel grieve with you, the people of Israel stand with you”.
