Israel Carries Out Airstrikes in Gaza After Rocket Fired from Palestine
The Egyptian army’s announcement came the same day as a meeting between Egyptian President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, a political rival of Hamas, in Cairo.
The anniversary of Arafat’s death falls on November 11. “The inquiry committee has been able to identify the assassin of former president Yasser Arafat”, said Tawfiq Tirawi, the head of the team, AFP reported on Tuesday. He highlighted the necessity for the global community to take responsibility and pressure Israel to implement the agreements signed with the Palestinian side, according to Egyptian foreign ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid, in a statement.
“The committee will carry on with its investigation until the truth is unveiled”, said Abbas, adding that “We tell Yasser Arafat that we are following his steps and we are sticking to our national merits and rights”.
Sisi said Egypt will continue efforts to establish a Palestinian State on the 1967 borders with Al Quds (occupied East Jerusalem) as its capital, Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef said.
Abbas also accused Hamas of engaging in direct negotiations with the Israeli occupation.
“These measures and the expansion of settlements as well as the violations of our holy sites are certainly making peace impossible and enlarges the flames of the conflict”, said Abbas.
Abbas was quoted as saying that he supports a “peaceful” popular uprising against Israel.
Abbas urged the Egyptian president to capitalize on his relations with worldwide parties to pressure Israel to stop “provocations” that lead to violence and bloodshed. One strike on October 11 killed a pregnant Palestinian woman, Nour Hassan, and her two-year-old daughter, Rahaf.
