Israel military says 3 Palestinians were shot and killed after stabbing
Zaban found that the two young accomplices doused Muhammad with gasoline and that Ben David lit the match.
The two minors blamed Ben David for planning the attack, claiming they were “emotionally dependent” on the older man. His death sparked weeks of angry protests by Palestinians outraged by the apparent revenge killing.
Adnan Al-Husseiny, minister of Jerusalem affairs in the Palestinian government, talked to media after they found the body saying that this cruel murder of the child, burning him alive is cruel, and he remarked how the tension between Israeli and Palestinian would escalate quickly because of that.
In Friday’s attacks, a Palestinian stabbed and wounded a soldier near Ramallah in the West Bank, the military said.
Ben-David has not spoken in court but Muhammad’s family said he was clearly sane and appeared lucid in videos shown in court. “But prosecutors argued to the contrary, noting testimony from the convicted minors that he both gave them instructions and directly participated in the murder”.
According the attorney of one of the convicted teenagers, the two minors were 16 years old at the time of the crime. Israeli forces have killed 97 Palestinians, of whom 58 were identified by Israel as assailants or caught on camera carrying out attacks, while others were shot in clashes with police and troops.
Normal legal procedures dictate that such conduct would be allowed since Ben David hadn’t been convicted yet, however the court would examine the opinion separately later in December, according to The Jerusalem Post.
Outside the court, the victim’s father, Hussein Abu Khdeir, said the evaluation request “made a joke of the court” and said he feared Ben-David would be treated with leniency.
A decision on his fate is expected after the court rules on the insanity motion in the coming days.
Suha Abu Khdeir holds a photo of her son, slain 16-year-old Mohammed Abu Khdeir, after the reading of the verdict in his killing at a Jerusalem court. “I am afraid that the court will let them go in the end”.
Gadi Gevaryahu, who is the head of the Tag Meir anti-racism NGO, said the postponing of Ben David’s conviction was “disappointing”. “When we try to claim we are better than our enemies … we will always have this incident as a mirror”, Corb said.
“None of the Israeli psychiatrists would write a report for Ben David, the defence tried to pay a lawyer from overseas but the judge initially refused”. “The whole world should know the criminal relationship between the Israeli murderers and the officials in the Israeli institutions and establishments”, said the statement. Within a day, three had confessed and reenacted the murder at the scene of the crime.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah Party also condemned the Israeli court’s decision.
