Israel plans over 55000 new West Bank settler units – NGO
The Palestinians, along with the global community, strongly object to settlement of the area.
According to Ma’an, Palestinians say Israel still holds some 50 bodies of terrorists killed during attacks over the past three months, some one-third from the Hebron area, which saw the highest share of attacks.
A Palestinian drove his vehicle into Israeli forces in the northern West Bank on Thursday before being shot dead, the Israeli army said.
Al-Hroub purportedly opened fire at Israeli settlers, killing two and hitting and injuring at least nine others.
The majority of the Palestinians were killed while carrying out attacks.
Palestinians accuse Israel of using excessive force in trying to subdue assailants, who have carried out near-daily, seemingly spontaneous attacks against Israelis using knives, guns and cars. “There is no need to pay worldwide prices for a process that does not have great significance”, a statement from the prime minister’s office said.
According to the United Nations 170 Palestinians and 26 Israelis have been killed since the start of the year and until December 28 in attacks and clashes. The latest round of US-brokered peace talks collapsed in April 2014.
Meanwhile, a bill that would impose new regulations on Israeli non-profit groups that receive funds from foreign governments has won ministerial approval, a move critics said targets pro-Palestinian organisations. They say that Israeli settlement construction on the lands they claim is a sign of bad faith.
Americans for Peace Now (APN) is alarmed by new evidence, exposed today by our Israeli sister organization Peace Now, indicating that the Israeli government is planning massive new settlement construction in the West Bank, including in an area known as “E-1” adjacent to East Jerusalem.
Shaked has said she was determined to crack down on those who take foreign money and then criticise Israel, accusing some NGOs of “eroding the legitimacy of Israel to exist as a Jewish and democratic state”.
