Israel police: Jordanian shot dead after stabbing attempt
Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian who was allegedly wielding a knife in Israeli occupied East Jerusalem on Friday and killed another in a vehicle that rammed into a bus stop near an illegal Israeli settlement in the West Bank, police said.
Police said a second knife was discovered during a search of the would-be-assailant’s body.
Damascus Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City has been a flashpoint for terror attacks during the wave of violence that began almost a year ago.
The Israeli media alleged that the young Palestinian attacked a group of the Israeli soldiers in al-Khalil City.

A Palestinian man driving a auto with a female passenger allegedly rammed the vehicle “into a civilian bus stop”, the Israeli military said in a statement.
Israeli forces say they shot dead a Palestinian after he wounded a soldier with a knife near Hebron. About 213 Palestinians have also died during that same time; Israel says the majority were attackers. Following the attack the main roads into and out of Hebron were closed off.
The IDF and the Border Guard said that troops making arrests in Beit Ula on Thursday managed to apprehend one suspect and shot another suspect who tried to flee. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Friday’s attacks.
Previously there had not been an attack in three weeks.
Tensions have soared in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories since an uptick in Israeli-Palestinian violence began nearly one year ago.
The unidentified man, 28, was shot dead at the scene. Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967.
Thirty-five Israelis been killed in a wave of knife, gun and car-ramming attacks by Palestinians or Israeli Arabs since last October. “Despite warnings by the worldwide community and the region, leaders on both sides have failed to take the hard steps needed for peace”, Ban said. “The occupation, stifling and oppressive, must end”, he added.
Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman has ordered officials to boycott United Nations envoy Nickolay Mladenov over his criticism of Israel’s settlement policies.
