Israel police: Soldier stabbed in Jerusalem, attacker caught
Four Palestinians were killed on Thursday, among them three who Israel said were carrying out attacks on soldiers in the West Bank, the latest in a three month-long wave of unrelenting Israeli-Palestinian violence.
After Hammad’s funeral on Saturday brief clashes broke out between Israeli security forces and Palestinians, with tear gas used to disperse the crowds.
“There were three soldiers”.
A Palestinian man tried to stab an Israeli police officer on Saturday near Jerusalem’s Old City and was killed, a police spokeswoman said. The Israeli police took cover and shot at the driver, who died on the scene, said police spokeswoman Luba Samri. “The terrorist whipped out a knife and tried to stab a police officer”.
The incident was captured on security camera footage.
The Israeli occupation police said in a statement that “she attempted to ram [Israeli] soldiers with her vehicle”.
This brings the total number of Palestinian killed since the beginning of violent unrest that has been wracking the Palestinian Territory, Gaza, and Israel since early October 2015, to 138, including 26 children and seven women, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
Medical officials in Gaza city said that Hani Wahdan, 22, was killed after Israeli soldiers shot him during the clashes east of Al Shuja’eya neighborhood east of Gaza city. The site, Islam’s holiest outside Saudi Arabia, is also revered by many Jews as a vestige of their biblical temples.
Israel says the violence stems from a Palestinian campaign of incitement, but Palestinian authorities argue the violence comes from their frustration at almost five decades of Israeli military rule coupled with the collapse of US-sponsored peace talks.
