Israel rejects Obama’s latest remarks on Iran nuclear deal
Israel’s Defense Ministry Friday likened the Iran nuclear deal to the 1938 Munich agreement with Nazi Germany and slammed President Barack Obama for defending the accord with Tehran.
“I don’t know to which Israelis [Obama] spoke recently”, Likud member of Knesset Tzachi Hanegbi, a minister in the Prime Minister’s office and recently the chair of the Knesset’s influential Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, told the Times of Israel.
“The Israeli defense establishment believes that agreements have value, only if they are based on an existing reality, and that they have no value if the facts on the ground are completely the opposite of [the concepts] on which an agreement is based on”, the Ministry said.
The ministry, in a statement that seems to have been released by Lieberman, emphasized that Israel still objects to the deal with Iran and said it was as harmful as the Munich pact with Hitler.
On Thursday, President Obama pointed out that the nuclear deal has been working for over a year despite initial warnings and pessimistic predictions that the Iranians would violate the terms of the agreement.
“These things are also true about Iran, which also clearly states openly that its aim is to destroy the state of Israel”, it said, pointing to a recent U.S. State Department report that determined that Iran is the number one state sponsor of terrorism worldwide.
In his Friday statement, Netanyahu said it is important now that “both those who supported the deal and those who opposed it work together to achieve three goals: 1”.
“The Munich agreement did not prevent World War II and the Shoah (Holocaust) because it rested on the hypothesis that Nazi Germany could be a partner to an agreement”, it said in a statement.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a separate statement, reiterating the country’s rejection of the deal but stopping short of lambasting Obama.
Nothing could be clearer than Israel’s eternal opposition to the Iran deal. “Dismantle Iran’s global terror network”.
