Israel’s Netanyahu to Meet Obama, Discuss Security, Aid
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will sit down with U-S President Obama Tomorrow in Washington.
US President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are set to meet for the first time since relations deteriorated over a nuclear deal between world powers and Iran.
With a grudging acknowledgement from the White House that the biggest issue facing Israeli-American relations – a peace agreement with the Palestinians – will nearly certainly be left unresolved by this administration, the two leaders will instead attempt to reaffirm their strategic relationship in an effort to demonstrate that a year of public spats has not permanently jeopardized the Jewish state’s relations with its strongest ally. He added: “Just as it devastates Palestinian families, the continuing humanitarian crisis in Gaza does not serve Israel’s security….”
Police also said that an officer wounded in a Palestinian attack earlier this month had died of his wounds.
Netanyahu reportedly has promised Kerry that he will review the appointment. Baratz is not on the trip, and Netanyahu has said he will decide his fate after returning to Israel. The State Department said that Mr. Kerry spoke to the Israeli leader about Mr. Baratz last week and that the prime minister would be reviewing the appointment.
“More importantly the actions of his government – the building of settlements, the expulsion of Palestinians – shows their true intention, which is never to leave”, Duss told Al Jazeera.
The USA hinted Saturday that it would be unlikely that it will pursue a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine due to recent violence in Middle East.
The paper reports that the army was hoping to avoid the call-up and wishing against wish the terror wave would disappear, but with that becoming increasingly unlikely, the “drastic step” needs to be taken. Even after Netanyahu froze construction in the West Bank, negotiations failed and bouts of fighting erupted between Israelis and Palestinians. Israel is also believed to be the only Middle Eastern country with atomic weapons, although it has never confirmed it.

He said the men would seek common ground on the Palestinians, the Iran issue and the situation in Syria.
“When we tell the children that Ramadan is coming, and it’s such a joy, they ask us odd questions that we don’t know how to reply”.
“Although we won’t always agree, and this is the one thing I do want to say – we should always be respectful of one another”, Biden said, speaking at the Union For Reform Judaism convention in Orlando. “Will we hear the loud bombardments?'” Abu-Jamel said.
“The row over Iran is essentially over, peace with the Palestinians is as elusive as ever and the next U.S. presidential election approaches”. He said Obama is interested in establishing a positive legacy and “doesn’t want to be perceived as an anti-Israel president”.
Aside from his Obama meeting, he will deliver speeches to the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), the annual Jewish Federations of North America’s General Assembly and the Center for American Progress, before flying back to Israel on Wednesday.
Last week, Hillary Clinton, one of the main Democratic contenders, wrote of the US’ “unbreakable bonds” with Israel. Their stated reason: to provide them with a way to strike at Iran should they determine that the terms of the nuclear deal be violated by Iran.
“Netanyahu senses that Obama is going to have to compensate him on the Iran deal, regardless of his opposition to it”, Alpher said. Furthermore, they have history – a large portion of it bad. And while the meeting may give the leaders a chance to extend an olive branch to each other after several public disagreements, little else is likely to be accomplished.
