Israel shoots dead Palestinian brothers, aged 17 and 23
Israeli leaders have been outraged over the EU’s recent decision to require labels on imported products made in West Bank settlements.
More than 20 Israelis have been killed and dozens injured.
Israel has returned the bodies of three more Palestinians killed while carrying out attacks on Israeli targets, the Palestinian news agency Maan reported Tuesday.
The people who brought the 56-year-old man to the hospital said he was shot for no reason, Palestinian Health Ministry spokesman Taref Ashour said. Palestinians say the violence stems from frustration over almost five decades of Israeli military rule.
A nearby security guard apprehended the attacker who was then taken into police custody.
US-backed peace talks between the Palestinians and Israel collapsed in April 2014 amid bitter mutual recriminations.
Violence has also been triggered by Muslim anger over stepped-up Israeli visits to Jerusalem’s al Aqsa mosque complex.
On Sunday, the so-called Transparency Bill unanimously passed the Knesset’s Ministerial Committee for Legislation.
Hanan Ashrawi condemned Israel’s illegal settlement activities stating:”Once again Israel is exposing its true intentions of destroying the chances for a contiguous and viable Palestinian state while establishing “Greater Israel” on historical Palestine”.
There are more than 30,000 NGOs registered in Israel, about half of them active. “There is no need to pay worldwide prices for a process that does not have great significance”, a statement from the prime minister’s office said.
Speaking at the weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday, Shaked said the Israeli public had a “right to know when foreign governments are involved in the domestic matters of another country”. Earlier this month, a nationalistic activist group called Im Tirtzu began a fierce video campaign that accused human rights groups of being spies and foreign agents. The Palestinians strongly object to settlement of the area, saying it would separate a future Palestinian state in the West Bank from east Jerusalem, their hoped-for capital, and drive a wedge between the northern and southern flanks of the West Bank.
