Israel strikes Hamas position in Gaza
The weekly protest killed at least 4 unarmed Palestinians and injured up to 950.
After advancing toward the border fence, protesters would retreat as the Israeli army fired tear gas. Evacuating Gaza didn’t inspire its people to accept the notion of two states for two peoples. “The tires cause shootings”.
IDF spokesman Avichay Adraee issued an Arabic-language warning against the burning kites on Friday, as the army braced for week six of the mass “March of Return” protests.
Israel has warned that it will prevent such a breach at any cost. The protests are due to continue until mid-May, when the U.S. plans to move its embassy. “We will cut through the fence”. Amarin said, as another protester beside him brandished a yellow wire cutter.
Eyewitnesses said after Friday prayers, hundreds headed to five different locations along the border.
Israel believes that the six-week-long campaign is being organized by Hamas in an effort to pierce the decade-old blockade imposed on the enclave since the organization took control of the Gaza strip in 2007 elections. Israel countered by saying the damage was limited to the Palestinian side. Hamas has announced that the dead all were members of its military wing’s forces, blaming the incident on Israel, which declined comment. It has said that some of those protesting at the border over the past few weeks tried to damage the border fence or plant explosives along it.
With up to 15 kites launched each day, the Israeli military appear to have no immediate answer to the primitive but effective new Palestinian weapon. At least 43 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli army gunfire in the last month.
With the steady decline of ammunition among the Palestinians, the protesters have now resorted to flinging stones over the border fence into Israeli territory. Alternatives, such as accommodating refugees and their descendants in a future Palestinian state, have been discussed in peace talks that date back to 1993 but which are now stalled. More than 700,000 Palestinians were expelled or fled their homes during the 1948 war and its aftermath.
Abu Asser’s death brought the death toll among Palestinian protesters to 45 people since the anti-Israel rallies started on March 30.
