Israeli army: Palestinian shot after driving auto into troops

Later in the Gaza Strip, 23-year-old Salame Abu Jamaa was shot dead by Israeli security forces in clashes near the border with Israel, the enclave’s health ministry said.

Additionally, a 48-year-old man was wounded in a second stabbing attack Sunday. Friday’s shooting near the shrine – revered by Muslims and Jews as the burial site of biblical patriarchs – could signal a further escalation of violence.
According to Israeli media, three Israelis were injured in the incident, while a fourth was shot and injured in the leg. Israeli public radio has said that two of the wounded are in critical condition.
The Palestinian Authority in the West Bank shuttered the local office of a pan-Arab newspaper over its reporting on Palestinian security coordination with Israel.
Israeli forces have set up additional checkpoints and road blocks throughout the city and have restricted access to the Old City and other neighbourhoods for non-residents. At the time, the measure’s co-sponsor Ted Deutch (D – Fla.) said, “It is well past time for President Abbas to stand up and condemn all acts of violence, rather than encouraging violence by glorifying terrorists and teaching children to view Israelis as animals”.
