Netanyahu on Saturday said he had instructed his country’s security and intelligence agencies to assist France and other European nations as they investigate Friday night’s attacks.

“Against the backdrop of continued tensions between Israelis and Palestinians in Jerusalem and the West Bank, all steps that could lead to an escalation should be avoided”, she said.

The statement claims the idea that al-Aqsa is in danger “falsely [accuses] Israel of intending to harm the mosque and deviate from the status quo” and that this “incitement and propaganda” has been the background for “a large portion of the recent attacks”.

Israel banned the Morabitat from al-Aqsa and deemed membership in or financing of it illegal on September 8 as a direct result of Temple movement leader Yehuda Glick’s complaints of their presence at the compound.

United (Arab) List MK Ahmad Tibi called the decision contemptible and said that the Islamic Movement is an authentic part of the Palestinian-Arab community in Israel. But the attack in Israel’s economic hub of Tel Aviv returned the violence to the Israeli heartland, shattering a lull that had set in outside of the West Bank and stoking Israeli fears that a full-fledged Palestinian uprising could erupt.

“They have filled the vacuum of the government services in the Arab communities”, said Wadea Awawdeh, an Arab commentator in northern Israel. Furthermore, since Israel is particularly keen on ending the Arab-Israeli conflict, the API provides a clear road map to peace between Israel and the Palestinians in the context of a comprehensive Arab-Israeli peace.
