Israeli Father and Son Shot And Killed In Ambush Near Hebron
Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon summoned Israel’s senior defense officials Friday evening, shortly after a deadly terror attack in the West Bank killed an Israeli father and son and wounded five other members of the family.
The demolitions came hours after two Israelis were shot dead in an apparent ambush near the flashpoint West Bank city of Hebron yesterday in the most serious attack on Israelis in almost a month.
Israeli forces have sparked outrage after disguising themselves as locals and killing a Palestinian man during a raid at a West Bank hospital.
Since mid-September, Palestinians have killed 14 Israelis in a series of stabbings, shootings and vehicular attacks that began in Jerusalem but spread to the West Bank. It claimed the man had tried to attack the troops, but gave no further details and would not say whether undercover troops had participated.
It was the latest in a two-month wave of violence in which Palestinian assaults on Israeli civilians and soldiers have become an nearly daily occurrence.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, Thursday’s incident brings the total number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces since October 1 to 83, including 18 children and four women. They went to the surgical unit, where they pulled out their guns and stormed a room where Azzam Shalaldeh was being treated for gunshot wounds, he said.
“What I have found actually since leaving the Quartet role is that it’s been easier to have conversations in complete frankness with people”.
“The protesters are mostly young people and they are about ten metres away from the soldiers”, Zanoun said.
The decision was made at a meeting held in Brussels on Wednesday, where the European Commission adopted an ‘indication of origin of goods from the territories occupied by Israel since June 1967.’ These areas are classed as the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights. Palestinians say the violence is due to a lack of hope for gaining independence.
The clashes broke out after a funeral procession held for Mahmoud’s cousin, Abdullah Azzam al-Shalaldeh, who was killed by Israeli settlers at al-Ahli Hospital.
Yesterday saw three Palestinians die after being shot by troops.
For the Palestinians, the Israeli security crackdown is the harshest in a decade.
