Israeli police officer succumbs to injuries from West Bank attack
The attack came at a time of frequent clashes in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, as well as a series of “lone wolf” attacks on Israeli civilians.
Ramallah -Dozens of Palestinians were injured during clashes with Israeli forces in the West Bank Wednesday, the anniversary of the death of their leader, Yasser Arafat, the Palestinian health ministry said.
Prisoners, he claimed, are shackled to their beds and face regular attacks by guards and stiff fines. Israel has repeatedly denied such claims.
The Palestinians seek an independent state in occupied East Jerusalem, the occupied West Bank and Gaza, which were captured by Israel in the 1967 war.
It said the arrests were carried out in a joint operation by the Israeli military, the Shin Bet security agency and the Israeli police.
According to the Israeli police, Mohamed Nimer, a 37-year-old Palestinian, was killed after attempting to stab an Israeli soldier near East Jerusalem’s Al-Amoud Gate.
A Palestinian bystander was hurt by a stray bullet, Samri added. The guard shot back at them and a hospital spokeswoman said one boy was seriously wounded.
Qalqilya is located in Area A of the West Bank, ostensibly under full security control of the Palestinian Authority. The video made no mention of the preceding attack.
The two teenagers are among the youngest alleged assailants in recent attacks, which began in September when tensions at a disputed holy site rose over rumors that Israel planned to strengthen Jewish rights at the complex. “I’ll show a video how you stabbed and ran after an Israeli”.
Manasra was treated in Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital and arrested upon his release last week.
Chaim Shmueli, a police district commander, said Jerusalem would be kept on a heightened level of security after the back-to-back incidents.
In the video, police officers showed Manasra the security camera footage of the attack. One of the officers shouts at him, “Is this you, this person?” as the teen cries and says he doesn’t remember.
Attorney Lea Tsemel, who is representing Manasra, said she may contest the investigation based on the video.
