Israeli police: Palestinian killed in attempted attack
Israeli soldiers shot dead a Palestinian who tried to ram them with a auto and another who took part in a violent demonstration in the occupied West Bank on Friday, the military and medical officials said.
Three Palestinians were killed Friday in clashes with Israeli troops in the West Bank and Gaza, the latest in three months of near-daily Palestinian attacks and violence roiling the region.
The Mavi Marmara was leading a “Gaza Freedom Flotilla” carrying humanitarian aid for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which has been under an Israeli blockade since 2007. The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified in that guy as Mahmoud Mohammed Saeed Alagha, 20, from Khan Younis in Gaza.
Health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told the AFP news agency that 31 of the wounded were hit by live fire and the other 10 by rubber bullets.
Reports, however, said that the Israelis opened fire at the man after his auto bumped into a concrete barricade, adding that the Palestinian and his vehicle posed no threat at the time of the shooting. Israeli forces or armed civilians have killed at least 115 Palestinians, 69 of whom authorities described as assailants.
Samri says the attacker a man in his 30s from the West Bank village Turmus Aya was wounded in the leg and arrested.
After Turkish militants attacked Israeli commandos, nine Turkish citizens were killed in clashes. The army said it discovered and defused two improvised explosive devices on the fence on Friday, according to Reuters.
The week before the teen’s death, Israeli forces had killed two Palestinians in the refugee camp during a raid to demolish the home of an alleged Palestinian attacker.
“A Palestinian terrorist… drove at speed toward police and soldiers in an attempt to ram them”, before his vehicle hit a concrete pillar and he got out and ran toward them, shouting, police said.
Also, Friday, the military said troops killed a Palestinian at the border in the Gaza Strip who attempted to breach the border fence with Israel.
In the southern West Bank, soldiers shot a Palestinian in the head, seriously wounding him, during clashes near the flashpoint city of Hebron, the Palestinian Red Crescent said.
Palestinians have grown frustrated with Israel’s occupation, the complete lack of progress in peace efforts and their own fractured leadership, while global efforts to restore calm have so far failed.
