Israeli soldiers injured in West Bank vehicle attack

Three Palestinian attackers – including a teenage girl – and an Israeli soldier died in violence Monday. Of them, 57 are said by Israel to be attackers and the rest were killed in clashes with security forces.
Before departing Abu Dhabi, Kerry called to offer his condolences to the family of Ezra Schwartz, an 18-year-old yeshiva student from MA, who was killed in a drive-by shooting in the West Bank last week.
In his recent meeting with President Obama, Netanyahu reaffirmed his commitment to the two-state solution. Given the level of violence, Kerry acknowledged ahead of his trip that ambitions would be scaled back, saying he would be seeking steps “that could calm things down a bit”.
In practice, Netanyahu said, the civilian projects that the Palestinians are interested in will only be possible if the level of violence is lowered and Israel’s security needs are met.
Abbas on Monday once again accused Israel of aiming to change the status quo on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem and that it is carrying out “extrajudicial killings” of Palestinians carrying out terror attacks against Israelis.
Eliasson underlined that “illegal settlement activities and settler-related violence, demolitions of Palestinian-owned structures have continued, including punitive demolitions”. The official said Israel would not agree to any freeze in settlement construction.
In a similar incident, an Israeli was killed and another wounded in a knife attack that occurred later the same day at a gas station north of Jerusalem in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, according to the Israeli military.
During a visit to a West Bank settlement that has been the scene of numerous attacks, he also said work permits would be withdrawn for families of alleged attackers and pledged there would be “no limits” on the powers of Israeli soldiers in the West Bank.
Abbas also handed Kerry a file on incitement by Israel against the Palestinian people and leadership, Erekat said. The script is well-trodden, with Kerry likely to ask both sides to avoid provocative actions.

Netanyahu told Kerry before their meeting, “You are a friend in our common effort to restore stability, security, and peace”.
A ricochet from one of the bullets he fired injured a passerby – an Israeli man, hospital officials said. “Israel is fighting these forces every hour”.
Palestinians have been threatening to stop the security coordination as a part of measures to reviewing the Palestinian-Israeli relations in protest of Israel’s non-abidance by the signed agreements as well as the frozen peace talks.
