ISS Astronauts Working To Free Jammed Rail Car From Orbiter
They have learned about the importance of being healthy in space and how daily life compares to that on earth, and even created a website for Tim Peake using HTML and CSS.
After Kelly and Kopra moved the rail vehicle, they began routing cables to prepare for a new docking adapter for commercial cargo ships.
In his first blog from space Major Peake wrote: “The support for our launch was outstanding, and I want to thank each of you for the #GoodLuckTim messages”. His father says they had only popped out for an hour.
The rail auto is part of the station’s mobile transport system, which is normally used to transport people and equipment, including the station’s big robot arm. NASA can rest easy now that the Progress ship – and other future resupply missions – will be able to dock with the station and deliver those resources safely on Wednesday.
Tim Peake’s duties included getting the crew inside their space suits and out of the airlock while talking to mission control back on the ground. Kopra continued the preparatory work for a Russian research laboratory that will be built at the space station someday soon.
“That’s one small step for a Mobile Transporter”, Rob Navias, a commentator for NASA TV, said during the live broadcast of the spacewalk.
British astronaut Tim Peake confirmed that the film should make its way to the International Space Station, and they’ll actually get to see the flick on a newly installed projector screen.
Previous “Brits in space” have either had U.S. or dual citizenship or been on privately funded or sponsored trips. The decision to send him into space came after the UK Government started to contribute funds to Esa’s ISS operations in 2012.
