It Appears That Martin Shkreli’s Twitter Account Has Been Hacked
Former hedge fund manager and Turing Chief Executive Martin Shkreli announced Friday that he is resigning from his post as the company’s CEO, one day after he was arrested on charges of security fraud.
“Sorry, but you have to be a shareholder to meet me”, Shkreli said in the tweet.
However, karma bites – and Shkreli was arrested on Thursday by federal agents, over allegations of fraud at his now-defunct hedge fund MSMB Capital Management.
His tweet on Saturday was his first direct comment about the pending charges, although a representative earlier said Shkreli was confident that he would be cleared.
The Justice Department added that Shreli’s illicit activities occurred between 2009 and 2014.
He’s the enfant bad of pharmaceuticals, a 32-year-old CEO who unapologetically raised the price of the only approved drug for a rare disease from $13.50 to $750 per pill. Among those affected by the price hike were people infected with HIV-AIDS.
Shkreli, who resigned as Turing’s chief executive on Friday, has appeared to bask in the attention.
In Brooklyn, Shkreli was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and charged with illegally taking stock from Retrophin Inc., a biotech firm he founded in 2011, according to CBS News.
At the beginning of the video, he told viewers, “Good to be back. We try hard to make sure that our money is coming from places we’re comfortable with”, its spokesman said.
Shkreli said the company would cut the price of Daraprim. Bernie Sanders returned a donation from Shkreli.
Shkreli was arrested on Thursday and charged with securities fraud. Instead, the shareholder said he believed that Shkreli had actually quietly liquidated whatever position he still held in SeraCare in the weeks or months before that filing.
“Among the accusations leveled by the Securities Exchange Commission: that when Shkreli stated in 2010 that his hedge fund was managing $35 million in assets, the fund actually had less than a combined $1,000 in its bank and brokerage accounts”.
Recently it emerged that he bought the only copy of a Wu-Tang Clan album titled “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin”, which the group sold on the condition that it not be released publicly.
