‘It can’t be down to fitness’ Fulham boss furious at late collapse
Hull’s Championship season continued, with the Tigers back to winning ways at the KC Stadium against Fulham on Wednesday. A fairly balanced game of football led to a few early Hull chances.
The midfielder stole in at the back post to head home Andy Robertson’s cross on 34 minutes to finally break Fulham’s resistance.
And to make matters worse for Symons, he had to watch on in horror as keeper Marcus Bettinelli and striker Matt Smith collided in the first half and were carried off with knee injuries. It took 24 minutes of play in the 2nd half for Fulham to get an equalizer.
The Scotland goalkeeper, whose gaffe at Wolves on Sunday was widely highlighted, spilled a cross under pressure, and although Hull rode the first wave of attack they failed to clear their lines properly and were out of position when Cairney sent a lovely left-footed strike into the top corner from just outside the area.
However, Hull had the last laugh, as Sone Aluko scored the victor four minutes from full time with a close-range finish.
“That’s being brutally honest and that’s what we need to guard against”.
Hull supporters will have left the ground happy, as the Fulham fans will be wondering what’s next for their club. “I hope it doesn’t come down to the last two or three days (of the transfer window) when we lose these players because then it becomes very, very hard (to replace them)”.
Kit Symons was counting the cost of a tough night for Fulham at Hull City.
“We showed a bit of resilience, and we didn’t really play well in the second half after the first-half dominance”.
He said: “We’re only three league games in and I’m sick of saying the same things already”.
“It can’t be down to fitness, it must just be down to concentration, not being street-wise enough”.
