‘It feels great’ DiCaprio says on Oscar nod

The film scooped ten nominations. Five others are Tom McCarthy’s Spotlight, Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies, Adam McKay’s The Big Short, Lenny Abrahamson’s Room and John Crowley’s Brooklyn.

The nominations were full of surprises.

For a second year in a row, no minorities were nominated in any of the four acting categories. “There was more diversity in the 1936 Berlin Olympics”, tweeted one user, named Richard Hine, alongside a picture of African-American athletes at the games. “The idea of using natural light came because we wanted the audience to feel, I hope, that this stuff is really happening”.

The Best Actress nominees include Brie Larson, Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan and Charlotte Rampling. This year gives us a lot of room to speculate about who will take home the prize in the 24 categories.

DiCaprio is up against Bryan Cranston (“Trumbo”), Michael Fassbender (“Steve Jobs”) and Matt Damon (“The Martian”). Scott, 78, has been nominated three times and never won. As a testament to just how good of a movie it is, the seventh episode of the sci-fi franchise recently received 5 Academy Award nominations. And while many thought “Straight Outta Compton” might earn a best picture nod, it will have to settle for a nomination for best original screenplay. The survivalist drama about the 19th century fur trapper Hugh Glass is leading in the nominations with 12 nods including the best director for Alejandro G Inarritu.

Like past year, there was an absence of performers of color. Once again, #OscarsSoWhite was trending on social media.

But Noah said it “sucks” that in order for black filmmakers to win Oscars, they have to make movies about slavery. It’s his 50th nomination, extending his record as the most-nominated person alive.

Some were shocked to find out that the cast of the “Straight Outta Compton” biopic were passed over. Aside from the Inside Out, the Oscar nominee slots are taken by Shaun the Sheep, Anomalisa, Boy and the World and When Marnie Was There.

Winners will be announced at the star-studded Oscars in Los Angeles on February 28. “Including Chris Rock. But he should drop them last minute”.
