It’s Samba Time in Liverpool
As the Reds enjoy an upturn in performance levels since Brendan Rodgers was sacked, The Times’ Merseyside correspondent Tony Barrett joined Joe to chat about Klopp’s encouraging start so far.
Last season, Philippe Coutinho set himself apart as Liverpool’s best player, and one who still had plenty of potential to grow into one of the best in the game.
“The first 30 or 35 minutes was as good as anything I can remember”.
“If we can sort out our home form and get it better, we’ve got a massive, massive chance of getting into the top four”.
Carragher went on to talk about the effect of Klopp’s ability to play an organised and structured format, as he praised Klopp’s effect in just 10 days of the worldwide break.
They decided a second too late and Simon Mignolet has the ball, and he should have the solution for us, but that’s not okay because he can only shoot the long ball.
“It’s very important to turn the page as soon as we can”, said the Chilean, whose side fell behind to an early Eliaquim Mangala own goal.
“We have difficulty in understanding why we played so badly as a complete team”.
Milner brought his five-year stay with City to an end in August, signing for Liverpool on free transfer in a desire for more game time and promises he would be played in central midfield. But of course we have to work at the mentality, and it’s a different thing. “We couldn’t be sure that we would start with the biggest confidence after what happened against Palace but now have more and more confidence in the squad”, he said with his trademark smile before reminding his charges that there were opportunities that went begging.
At their usual light training session on Sunday the players took the opportunity to dissect their performance in the hope of sparking a reaction similar to that which followed September’s 4-1 defeat at Tottenham.
“To me it is a foul because he clearly pushed me, but the game kept going and we conceded a goal”.
There were so many pleasing aspects about Liverpool’s display, yet Klopp’s post-match comments hinted that there is plenty of work still to be done and that will help keep the players grounded.
Liverpool remain six points adrift of both City and Arsenal who occupy third and fourth spot respectively, while they are eight points behind league leaders Leicester City.
