‘It would be helpful’ if Republicans would help him
At a rally in Las Vegas, Trump blasted the “insurgent group” behind a push to allow delegates pledged to the presumptive GOP presidential nominee to vote for another candidate, saying it wasn’t allowed by party rules. There were reports this week that the Republican National Committee, fearful that the impending blowout loss for Donald Trump could cost the GOP the Senate and a number of seats in the House, is planning to filter money away from Trump and to downticket candidates.
But Clinton leads Trump in Real Clear Politics’ polling average of the state, and Trump’s rally on Saturday, at the Phoenix Memorial Coliseum-known locally as the “Madhouse in McDowell”-seemed to belie the state’s deep-red reputation”.
“I’d love to do it”, he said. “I beat everybody. But I don’t mean beat – I beat the hell out of them”, he said.
“If you had somebody with a gun strapped onto to their head, strapped onto their ankle and you had bullets going in the opposite direction… you would’ve had a very different result, believe me”, he said.
While Trump dismisses the effort as invented, more Republicans in Congress are saying they will not attend the party convention and are not endorsing his candidacy. The sheriff endorsed Trump in January. But if for any reason they get a little bit like they don’t want to help out as much, then I’ll fund my own campaign. “You know, right now, I’m raising a lot of money for the Republican party”, he said.
Despite weather that hovered around 110 degrees, several thousand people showed up to the rally, and the security line moved quickly, unlike at other rallies this week. Tourists carrying beer and wearing bikinis watched the crowds with amusement.
Police said in a statement: “While inside the theatre, a subject, later identified as 19-year-old Michael Sandford, approached a uniformed LVMPD officer who was assigned to the event”.
“I’m not happy about it, but I have to put up with it”, Trump told supporters after erroneously blaming the TSA.
Trump’s rallies often not only bring the political bandwagon, but quite frequently – including his last two Arizona campaign stops in March – bring with them protesters.
“I’m not one to back down”, said Perrin, a former New York City police officer.
He also stepped up his criticism of President Barack Obama after the Orlando nightclub shooting. Trump said that taking in refugees is “going to be a problem that you have never seen before”.
Mr. Trump stated in the rally that his opponent from the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton, had not the integrity to be president.
