Italy prosecutors question suspect in US student death
An Italian news agency reported that two people are claiming to have seen a man throw a person into the Tiber River the night Solomon disappeared.
Last week, University of Wisconsin-Madison student Beau Solomon went missing under similar circumstances and was later found in the Tiber River.
Galioto was detained Tuesday on suspicion of aggravated homicide, a day after Solomon’s body was pulled from the river downstream.
An autopsy will probably be carried out Tuesday, police said.
A homeless man has been arrested in connection with Solomon’s death. Like Beau Solomon, Theresa Mogni’s son Andrew traveled to Rome to study at John Cabot University and never returned home. He was a cancer survivor, and growing up he had undergone around 15-20 procedures, yet he remained courageous and turned out to be such an awesome kid.
“He made everyone around him better and he always cared more about others than himself”, Jake Solomon said.
Beau Solomon had just completed his first year of study as a personal finance major in the at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a statement issued by the university.
Solomon was from Spring Green, Wisconsin.
Italian police have taken a man into custody after an American student studying overseas was found dead July 4. No residential telephone listing could be found for Cole Solomon and calls to two possible listings for Nick Solomon rang unanswered.
“All of us at UW-Madison are greatly saddened by this loss”.
The 19-year-old battled cancer for 10 years until the age of 12, after which he went on to participate in high school sports, work as a camp counselor for Badger Boys State and teach at youth quarterback camps around Wisconsin. Our hearts go out to Beau’s family and friends at this hard time.
On Tuesday, the USA ambassador to Italy, John Phillips, pledged assistance to Italian authorities investigating the death. “He was just the greatest guy”.
“He was a great student”, his friend Rowan McDonnell told WKOW-TV.
“He always had my back”, McDonnell said.
