Italy’s Tania Cagnotto ends China gold streak at FINA World
Tania Cagnotto won Italy’s first diving gold medal for 40 years on Tuesday in the women’s 1m springboard final to break China’s winning streak at the world championships in Kazan.
China now collected 5 golds from 6 diving events.
Kvasha had the consolation of becoming the first non-Chinese diver to claim multiple medals in men’s one-metre springboard at world championships.
In the women’s 10-meter, China’s champions, Si Yajie and Tai Xiaohu, also clinched the gold after the pair led the pack from start to end in the event for the mixed 10-meter platform dive. The feeling of beating them is enjoyable.
Xie is now targeting another gold in Wednesday s team event alongside Chen, but admitted his victory caught him by surprise. I respect the Chinese divers as they are my idols.
The 21-year-old Wilimovsky finished in a winning time of 1hr 49min 48.2sec as Dutch swimmer Ferry Weertman took silver, 12.1sec behind, while 35-year-old defending world champion Spyridon Gianniotis of Greece claimed bronze, at 12.5sec.
“I did not expect to win the gold”. It is always hard to win a medal at the Olympic Games.
The Americans placed ninth, an improvement on the 13th place finish in the Mixed Synchro Platform event.
“Congratulations to Tania. She did very great today while we performed our normal form”.
According to reports, Chinese Olympic champion Wu Minxia and two-time world champion Shi Tingmao clinched their second-straight world title in the three-meter women’s synchronized springboard event.
