J.J. Watt Injury Update: Texans DE Announces Date for Groin Surgery
The Chiefs used relentless pressure, five turnovers and a ball-control offense Saturday to dominate the Texans 30-0 in the wild-card round of the playoffs. He turned into the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for December, truly becoming a viable threat opposite J.J. Watt. With Watt off the field, the Chiefs scored touchdowns on their first two second-half possessions to put the game out of reach by the first play of the fourth quarter.
The Chiefs move on to the division round to face either the Denver Broncos or the New England Patriots, depending on the result of tonight’s Bengals-Steelers game.
Knile Davis’ 106-yard kick-off return touchdown in the opening seconds was the second longest in post-season National Hockey League history and laid the foundations of the success.
The Chiefs defence held Houston to 226 total yards and forced quarterback Brian Hoyer to throw four interceptions and lose a fumble.
Alex Smith threw a touchdown pass and Spencer Ware added a 5-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter to make it 27-0.
“I picked the wrong time to have the worst game”, said Hoyer, who finished 15 of 34 for 136 yards. Hopkins became the first NFL WR in history to have 100-yard receiving games with four different QBs this year, but Kansas City never let him loose.
The most costly pick came late in the second quarter, with Hoyer throwing straight to Chiefs linebacker Josh Mauga as the Texans threatened in the red zone.
The Kansas City Chiefs (12-5) have won 11-consecutive games in a row, including a masterful 30-0 win over the Texans in a Wild Card Game. Texans DE J.J. Watt was lost to a groin injury in the third quarter. And it was a change nobody could have predicted after Kansas City’s 41-14 victory on “Monday Night Football” at Arrowhead Stadium Sept. 29, 2014.
The Texans were so flat and erstwhile Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer was so generous that the Chiefs were never really tested on Saturday.
But less than a minute later, Texans running back ALFRED BLUE (17 carries for 99 yards) took a Hoyer handoff and sped his way up field for a 49 yard gain to the KC 13 yard line where he was dragged down by Chiefs cornerback SEAN SMITH.
But let’s take a look at some of the key numbers that got us to that final score. Maclin will have an MRI on Sunday…. Kansas City right tackle Laurent Duvernay-Tardif suffered a concussion in the first half.
