Jackass shuts down highway to propose to girlfriend
“When she said yes, I felt like a champion, like I won the Super Bowl”. “I wasn’t thinking about the traffic, I wasn’t thinking about anything, I was just shocked”.
Valladares Navas’ intended, Michelle Wycoff, 23, was unaware of the proposal plans, but quickly accepted.
In the middle of downtown Houston, his friends all stopped their cars at once on I-45, blocking all four lanes. “I just wanted to do something different”, Valladares said on Tuesday. “I thought about my girlfriend”, he said. Perhaps for her and Valladares’ next marriage proposals, they’ll opt for something a bit less ostentatious and resist the all-encompassing temptation to throw it on the internet right away. When video of the proposal was posted online, social media took Valladares to task and alerted government officials.
Valladares Navas admitted the stunt was unsafe.
“Love makes you do stupid things and I wanted to do something big for my girl”.
Mr Valladares Navas said his main concern was that his girlfriend said yes, not about safety.
Vidal Valladares has been charged with obstructing a highway, a class B misdemeanor.
“Besides being illegal it is incredibly unsafe and we would discourage anyone from taking such unnecessary risk which could result in injury to themselves or others”, Texas Department of Transportation spokeswoman Raquelle Lewis said.
Harries County District Clerk records report that he just got divorced in June after enduring a two-year marriage, though those records did not specify how he proposed to her.
He has since apologized to drivers saying that he didn’t want to cause trouble.
Plus, I’m not sure I’d want my first moments as an engaged person to involve the blaring horns of hundreds of angry cars trying to drive by.
