Jackie McNamara to be axed as Dundee United manager
Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara is on the brink of being axed, according to reports tonight.
“Dunfermline was a tough game and it took a bit out of some of the players but it was important we got the win on Tuesday”.
The Dundee United board were remaining circumspect about it, but it emerged after this capitulation at McDiarmid Park that McNamara had been dismissed.
United have not won in the league since early August and sit second bottom but McNamara believes Tuesday’s cup victory can signal better times ahead for the Tannadice club.
With Saints continuing to dominate, despite their one-man disadvantage, Craig’s curling free-kick was beaten away by Zwick in the 56th minute.
Record Sport sources state that the embattled boss left the club after watching his side lose to ten-man St Johnstone in Perth.
Speaking immediately after the game about the criticism, Donnelly said: “I’ve been lucky enough not to experience too much of it on the coaching side, but that’s football”. “They bullied us at times”.
“It’s criminal what we’ve done today”.
Wright was euphoric after this triumph and paid his players the ultimate compliment. We’re a team, the four of us are a team with the boys. Mannus missed the ball completely and clattered into McKay, leaving referee, Bobby Madden, no option but to produce a red card.
O’Halloran was sacrificed in favour of substitute keeper Zander Clark but the youngster’s first involvement was to retrieve McKay’s penalty from his own net. No sooner had Clark arrived between his sticks and McKay was coolly placing his penalty inside his right-hand post.
St Johnstone duly began the second half on fire.
The goalie was then not required a minute later but should have been, as Murray Davidson’s shot was deflected into the path of Steven MacLean, only for the striker to scoop his free shot over.
