Jackson shines again, No. 3 Louisville beats Marshall 59-28
Lamar Jackson and No. 3 Louisville go from playing the main event last week to the side stage this week. They were slight favorites against Florida State just before kickoff. Consequently, the Cards may choose to get other running backs such Traveon Samuel and Reggie Bonnafon more involved to increase their already considerable contribution to the Louisville running game. That was until Vick tweeted that Lamar Jackson was five times better than himself.
Louisville coach Bobby Petrino’s decision to replace Evan O’Hara with Blanton Creque as Louisville football’s field-goal kicker was based on merit, Petrino said after his team’s 59-28 win at Marshall on Saturday. The Cardinals were No. 3 on November 5, 2006, during coach Bobby Petrino’s first stint with Louisville. We’re used to going out there and executing everything right.
For the ACC and the entire country at this point, the shining star and obvious leading candidate for the Heisman is Lamar Jackson. Merrick, who had come to Marshall as a soccer player, was the team’s backup kicker, the starting job belonging to his brother David.
Jackson threw for four first-half touchdowns and rushed for another, completing 16-of-29 passes for 284 yards. His performances have been eye-opening but he’s not an overnight star. He has had nine plays of 25 yards or longer. Enough Said! #future.” Jackson was stoked by the tweet saying, “I was amazed.
Louisville (4-0) didn’t slow down against a nonconference opponent on the road a week after beating Florida State 63-20 at home. He has yet to give his individual performances a flawless grade. “We’re only three games into the season and we have to get back to work”. In the first half, Jackson passed for 284 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 37 yards and a touchdown to help Louisville build a 28-0 lead and a 35-7 halftime lead. He’s a great player. He runs away from people and he is not a guy who is going to slide. Defensively, Marshall football is yielding 32.5 points per game against the opposing team.
WEST VIRGINIA TIES: Louisville co-offensive coordinator Lonnie Galloway had two stints as wide receivers coach at West Virginia.
“We know we have a great challenge coming in here”, Marshall coach Doc Holliday says.
Louisville can’t start their ticker tape parade just yet, with #5 Clemson and #6 Houston still left on the schedule. Marshall could win the kicking game, be productive on offense and still be overwhelmed by Jackson and the Cardinal offense.
And he has produced a couple of highlight moments with his hurdle of a Syracuse defender en route to a touchdown and his lightning-fast, elusive 47-yard TD run against Florida State on national TV.
Marshall enters the week 1-1 after a 65-38 loss to Akron at home last week. They trailed by 13 with under six minutes to play.
