Jackson takes no-no into 7th, Padres win 5-3 to sweep Giants
They’re also 8-1 in his last nine starts versus National League West rivals and 10-1 in his last 11 starts following a quality start in his last appearance. He gave up two home runs while taking the loss as the NL’s starting pitcher in the All-Star Game, and Petco Park continued to play like a litter box for him on Sunday.
SAN DIEGO The Giants scaled to the best record in baseball at the All-Star break largely due to their top three starting pitchers.
San Diego Padres’ Travis Jankowski, bottom, steals third base as the pickoff throw gets past San Francisco Giants’ Conor Gillaspie and heads into left field in the first inning of a baseball game Saturday, July 16, 2016, in San Diego.
Looking to complete his fourth game against the Padres, Cueto yielded homers to Kemp and Bethancourt in the fourth inning and was lifted in the sixth after allowing four runs on six hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings.
“He wasn’t full strength”, manager Bruce Bochy said.
Bochy pushed back Cueto in the rotation after he threw 32 pitches in the Midsummer Classic. Ryan Schimpf had an RBI single and Jackson collected one as well, his second hit of the game.
Cueto allowed home runs to Kansas City’s Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez in the second inning of the All-Star Game, which the American League won 4-2.

Jackson looked terrific through the first six frames, but then had to sit for almost 35 minutes while the Padres rallied in the top half of the seventh.
Jackson pitched a no-hitter in 2010 for Arizona, walking eight and throwing 149 pitches to stop Tampa Bay.
The 14-year veteran will make his debut with his 11th major league team after pitching for the Miami Marlins and San Diego minor-league teams this year. The Giants only other hit was Ramiro Pea s broken-bat single in the ninth.
San Diego’s Yangervis Solarte homered in the seventh, his ninth.
“We had Jake ready”, Bochy said. Peavy started three postseason games for the Red Sox during their 2013 run to the World Series title.
