Jackson to be more involved with Knicks
On Tuesday, the Knicks will open their second training camp with Jackson as their president and Derek Fisher their coach.
“Before I got here, I was expecting him to be maybe a little bit skinnier”.
But for a few reason, Jackson has decided that he needs to “be around and coaching basketball and influential in observations”. Jackson said Friday that he will take a more active, day-to-day role with the Knicks this year.
He said he wants to reward Jackson’s confidence that he can be the centerpiece of a winning team at 31, and doesn’t think he is running out of time to do it.
While speaking with the media, Jackson approached the idea of moving Anthony around the floor in order to give the team a different look on offense, all thanks to the team’s signing of center Robin Lopez.
But hope floats, particularly along the Hudson River, and with Anthony fully healthy and a phalanx of new players in the blue and orange, is there a chance that these Knicks could rebound quickly?
Porzingis shot 35.9 percent from three point range with Baloncesto Sevilla last season, and continued to showcase his impressive mid-range game as well.
This is probably the best thing for the Knicks and Fisher going forward.
“I think that Phil is correct in the sense that past year we did try to predict … how a team would do over the course of a long National Basketball Association season and it’s really impossible to do that”, he said. “I’ve showed everybody that I’ve supported that pick”, Anthony said.
Derek Fisher says there are no medical restrictions on Carmelo Anthony going into camp but NYK will monitor how he responds to practice. However, on Monday, the 31-year-old said he’s optimistic about the season, intimating that he and Jackson are on the same page and adding that he’s honored to be the centerpiece of Jackson’s rebuilding attempt.
So, in the meantime, all he can do is work hard and continue to learn. I’m just ready to get out there and get this thing going. I think we will still gauge how much we want to put him under in terms of workload and stress in training camp and in the preseason. “I do think there were times past year that out of respect for each other’s titles as we learned how to operate from player/coach to president/head coach not wanting to bother each other or overload each other with too much information and conversation”.
For a player like Kristaps Porzingis, who’s coming over from Europe as one of the most hyped up rookies in his entire draft class, Carmelo Anthony acting like a big brother to him is exactly what he needs.
“I feel like I”m ready to go,” Anthony said.
