Jae West stood in Piccadilly Circus blindfolded in her underwear to encourage
Jae said she wanted to take the public stand after suffering from an eating disorder as a teenager and in her early twenties.
At first people kept their distance, but eventually men, women, young girls, and boys approached her to cover her in “love hearts”.
She slowly took off her dress and put on a blindfold.
As seen in video of the experiment, West undressed to her underwear in the middle of London’s Piccadilly Circus, then blindfolded herself and invited strangers to draw hearts on her bare skin to “support self-acceptance”.
“I’m standing for anyone who has struggled with an eating disorder or self-esteem issue like me”, the whiteboard she held in front of herself read.
Jae West, a campaigner with The Liberator’s global, has struggled with body acceptance and eating disorders for most of her life.
On a busy Sunday afternoon at the centre of Piccadilly Circus, Jae stood in the main pedestrian thoroughfare.
Its latest collaboration involved bringing awareness on body positivity and self-acceptance to Londoners.
Jae says she decided to do the experiment after being inspired by Amanda Palmer, who has previously stripped naked and allowed fans to draw on her body.
“He was acknowledging the fact that everyone should love themselves exactly as they are and appreciate the bodies they are given”.
“The feeling of the felt pen was on my skin was one of the most overwhelming feelings of relief, gratitude and love that I’ve ever felt”, Jae said. I just burst into tears, ‘ she wrote. “I don’t know who that first person was but I am so thankful for their contribution”, she wrote.
“If everyone could know and appreciate how lovely they are from childhood I think this world would be a very different place”.
