Jags win 22-20 on wacky finish in Baltimore
It was close, but CBS replays showed the Jaguars got the snap off with one second left on the clock.
The Ravens held a 20-19 lead as the final seconds ticked off the clock with an Elvis Dumervil sack on Blake Bortles which should have concluded the game and given the Ravens the win.
The Jacksonville Jaguars play the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10 of the NFL Schedule on Sunday, kick off time at 1:00 PM ET, at M&T Bank Stadium.
Per The Baltimore Sun’s Jeff Zrebiec and other reports, NFL Spokesman Michael Signora confirmed that the league errored on the play.
“There’s nothing we can do about it now”, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Monday, per Ryan Mink of BaltimoreRavens.com. “With that amount of time left, they didn’t get the snap off in the sense that they didn’t get everybody set”. “There’s nothing we can do about it now. You just have to get a feel for how your team’s playing and understand the opportunities that present themselves and you try to make a rational decision and you go forward”. It seems if something can go wrong in the final seconds, it has.
It isn’t the first time the league has admitted it missed a call this year.
The over/under for this game is 47.5 total points. Derek Carr threw two TD passes for Oakland (4-5), but also was intercepted twice. Then there was Sunday’s one-of-a-kind defeat.
This is unchartered territory for Harbaugh, who is in his eighth season as Ravens coach.
“This has been a tough process for us”.
“There’s absolutely an element of luck in this sport, whether it’s from injuries to winning games”, Jaguars guard Zane Beadles said. But that’s OK. We’re up for the challenge. We can deal with this. At 2-7, Baltimore is just a half-game ahead of the Cleveland Browns, who are in last place in the AFC North.
Flacco completed 34 of 45 pass attempts for 316 yards and a 98.0 passer rating.
As a result, the 15-yard penalty was enforced from the previous line of scrimmage (midfield) and the ball was moved to the Ravens’ 35-yard line. “I think we’re going to stay within our game plan and be who we are and do what we do”, Bortles said, “but it’s definitely something that you notice watching tape, the amount of shots taken and the successful shots taken, for sure”.
The Ravens will host the St. Louis Rams this week and the schedule does not let up from there.
“There’s nothing we can do about it now”, Harbaugh said.
“Our players are just of the highest caliber”, he insisted. “We’re Ravens. We’re going to be relentless, and we’re going to go out every game and prepare to win”.
