Jaguars’ Hurns suffers concussion in 31-25 loss to Chargers
The Jacksonville Jaguars lost 31-25 to the San Diego Chargers Sunday at EverBank Field, but the biggest loss may have been to wide receiver Allen Hurns. “All you can do is pray and hope that everything’s going to be OK”.
Along with the scores, the 35-year-old caught a 27-yard pass on a first-quarter wheel route.
On Sunday, Roberts caught six passes for a career-high 113 yards and two touchdowns in Oakland’s 24-21 victory over Tennessee.
After the Chargers intercepted a Blake Bortles pass deep in Jaguars territory, it was the same combination of Rivers to Gates, this time from 12 yards out, to give the Chargers a 21-9 halftime advantage.
San Diego’s defense gave up its share of yards but played well close to the goal line. McCoy said of Rivers.
Meanwhile, after getting blasted on Thanksgiving by the once 0-7 Detroit Lions (the last team to get a win this season), the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves just one game out of first place.
“I just feel like we’ve got to execute better”, said defensive tackle Roy Miller after the game.
Rivers led his team through out of the dark days by throwing four touchdowns and throwing for 300 yards.
NOTES: Safety Josh Evans suffered a concussion against San Diego and is in the concussion protocol and his condition will be updated Wednesday….Wide receiver Bryan Walters has soreness in his lower back and his condition will be updated Wednesday…. Team personnel eventually brought a cart onto the table to transport Hurns to the locker room and on to a local hospital. He said, “By no means does 3-8 sound wonderful, but winning today sure does”.
The good news for Hurns is that he did have movement in his extremities and he was able to tweet after the game. “I hope he’s OK”. In the receiving end, Delanie Walker had 91 yards in six receptions while Harry Douglas added 29 yards and one touchdown in three receptions. The pass landed on Hurns’ stomach after he rolled over – a San Diego defender picked up the ball – but officials ruled it touched the ground before he turned.
“Definitely an area that we need to take a strong look at”, Bradley said. “I think it was only for precaution and he’s going to be fine”.
The Jaguars, who have struggled offensively inside the opponent’s 20-yard line much of the season, scored field goals on three of four such occasions against the Chargers. He was one of Peyton Manning’s top targets in Denver and he was seen as a reliable target in the red zone. “Like I tell you guys all the time, it doesn’t happen overnight”. However, the team has yet to really allow Yeldon to play a complete game with regular redzone touches. The conversion on 4th and 7 will certainly go down as one of the greatest running plays in Chargers history.
