Jaguars RB Denard Robinson in single-car accident, not hurt
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Denard Robinson and a lady with him had to be helped out of a sinking vehicle.
With the driver’s side of the auto submerged in the pond and sinking, Robinson awoke to see a police officer tapping on the window but reportedly went back to sleep. Both Robinson and an adult female passenger “looked to be asleep/passed out”, the report detailed.
Investigators determined Robinson was westbound on Beach when he tried to turn onto Southside and drove over a sidewalk and into the pond.
“There were no skid marks indicating the driver attempted to stop the vehicle before the crash”, according to the report. The officer woke up the passenger and assisted her out of the vehicle after she refused to exit, per the report, but did not have as much luck immediately with the 25-year-old Jags back, who slept through his companion’s likely noisy auto exit. “I continued to knock on the window until the passenger woke up and rolled the window down and said, ‘What’s up'”.
“The driver was passed out during this whole process”, the officer wrote. I was able to wake the driver but had to turn the vehicle off and remove his seatbelt. Robinson thought he was still on the road and didn’t want to exit the vehicle, according to the report. The door was submerged and Robinson eventually got out of the vehicle through the passenger’s side, according to the report.
The driver’s side door was submerged in the pond, so an officer went to the driver’s side, where a 29-year-old woman was found, also asleep. “I had to keep reminding the driver to climb out of the passenger side because his door was in the water”.
Upon discovery, the driver’s side of the vehicle was submerged in the pond, so the officer approached the passenger side and knocked on the window to wake up the pair, according to the report. Borgert felt the driver was not impaired and should not be charged with DUI.
Nobody was injured and no citations were issued.
Robinson has played for the Jaguars for three seasons, rushing for 914 yards with five touchdowns in 42 games (12 starts).
Entering his fourth season with the team, Robinson will play behind T.J. Yeldon and Chris Ivory in the running back rotation.
On Tuesday, Robinson took to his Twitter account to let everyone know all involved are alright and to express regret for driving as late as he was.
