Jaguars’ Robinson shows frustration after latest loss
Time: Sunday, 1 p.m.
The offensive line’s performance was a rare bright spot for the Jaguars.
Rather than paying attention to what a loss would mean for the playoff-hopeful teams remaining on their schedule, including the Denver Broncos (7-4) on Sunday, the Jaguars remain focused on what a few wins could do for their confidence and ending the season on a positive note. “But we played our way through that, and we pushed our way through that”.
Siemian injured his foot early in the overtime period against Kansas City last Sunday, and missed his third consecutive practice Friday as a result.
Rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch started in place of Siemian and struggled to find any sort of rhythm.
Rookie Paxton Lynch made his first National Football League start for the Broncos after regular quarterback Trevor Siemian suffered an ankle injury in last week’s overtime loss to Kansas City.
After the game, Siemian was not wearing a boot and was walking around the locker room fine. Catching three passes for 31 yards against the Broncos isn’t going to cut it. While the Jaguars are ranked 24th against the run, the Broncos are nearly as ineffective running the ball on offense ranking 19th in rushing yards per game.
Raymond, an undrafted rookie from Holy Cross, was promoted five days after the Broncos watched another speedster, Tyreek Hill, score against them on a rush, a reception and a return.
Short of winning the last four games – which now looks as probable as receiver Allen Robinson becoming the NFL’s equivalent to Michael Jordan in greatest-beneficiary-of-officiating-calls – this season will likely go down as the biggest downer in Jaguars’ lore. “We play football in the National Football League”. They’re going to take it to another level if you have a good year because they feel like they need to take you out of your game.
That’s the message preached by Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley, particularly to the offensive line this week.
The teams combined for seven punts to start, making for a forgettable first quarter. But, despite the offensive issues that the team is now experiencing, star linebacker Von Miller is still confident about the squad’s fate this year.
Jacksonville has done a solid job protecting Bortles.
“You would like to make a play every game like that”, Miller said. These are symptoms of a team that either doesn’t have the resolve to dig deep inside with the game in the balance, or doesn’t know how to win.
“He’s special”, Kubiak said of Miller.
“He’s like any new player in any team’s offense. Von has played very consistent level for us this year, playing at a Pro-Bowl level”. You’ve got to stay true to what we do and what we believe in and go through the process. “Whatever it takes to get those, we are going to do it”. Bortles, a franchise quarterback trending toward a $100 million contract extension not too long ago, is doing nearly everything humanly possible to get himself benched.
Jacksonville Jaguars running back T.J. Yeldon, right, is stopped by Denver Broncos defensive end Jar …
Although receiver Bennie Fowler (knee) is out for Sunday, Raymond’s promotion gives the Broncos an astonishing eight wide receivers on their active roster to go with two long snappers and just five defensive linemen. He focused in on a tightly covered Demaryius Thomas toward his left.
But his performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars, a team that honestly the Broncos should have won easily, did not impress me at all.
