Jaguars snap Colts’ 16-game win streak in AFC South, 51-16
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles, top right, dives over the Indianapolis Colts line for a touchdown during the second half of an NFL football game in Jacksonville, Fla., Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015. Following Branch’s sack the Jaguars went on to outscore the Colts 42-3. Bortles was once again instrumental in the Jaguars’ win, throwing for 250 yards on 16-of-30 passing while tossing three touchdowns and no picks. The rookie from Florida State headed up-field, got two good blocks and went 73 yards to the end zone.
The Indianapolis Colts, a long-time nemesis, were leading 13-3 and had just been given another turnover in Jaguars territory on a Blake Bortles fumble.
But Bortles and the Jaguars were a different team after the break. It was the third game this season Bortles has thrown three or more touchdowns in a game, and it was his second consecutive week doing such after tossing five scores against the Titans last week. “Yeah”, he said. “Yeah, I’m hopeful. I wouldn’t say there’s any more urgency”. “Matt’s a tough guy and he’s a great competitor, so I fully anticipate him being available for us”. The Jaguars carried that momentum into the second half, and after Bortles found Robinson for a touchdown late in the third, the only thing left was to see how many points the Jaguars would score. Soon. The Colts are in a swoon. The Jaguars are one game back at 5-8. And backup Matt Hasselbeck is starting to show his age. It was Good who gave up the quarterback pressure to Jags defensive end Andre Branch, who stripped Hasselbeck and scooped the ball up for a 49-yard game-altering touchdown.
“When you take time off, it takes a little more time to get back into it”, Luck said of the conditioning aspect for his rehab.
Back then the Colts were dealing with some minor mid-season injuries, but overall had a much better team at that time. But Meyers also missed his NFL-high seventh extra point following the Jaguars first touchdown.
The game was boring for the first 28 minutes, with the teams combining for nine punts and three field goals.
It was the second straight lopsided loss for the Colts, who lost 45-10 at Pittsburgh last week. The 51 points are the most the Jaguars have ever scored in a regular-season game. “For us, we just stick to our game plan and our defense scored at the end of the half so the score was only 13-9”.
“Win. That’s the mentality”, Pro Bowl safety Mike Adams said Monday. “Makes it hard for him to breath and it’s pretty uncomfortable, especially when you get hit and knocked around like he did”. “You’ve got to answer and we didn’t answer”. “Playing at home, division rival, division game, division on the line, I don’t know how you can not get up for this contest”, Pagano said. Both referred to the Colts’ bad loss to the Jaguars in 2006, a 44-17 defeat played in Jacksonville.
