Jaguars WR Hurns cleared to play vs. Texans after concussion
The Jacksonville Jaguars won the statistical battle, but that was of little consolation on Sunday. I thought he made great strides with that.
With the loss, Jacksonville falls to 2-7, including 1-4 at home. But he’s been plagued by game-to-game and possession-to-possession unevenness. He’s so athletic, he’s so fast, he’s quick and he’s a smart football player as well.
It looked as if there may be some hope for a comeback in the fourth quarter, as a Blake Bortles touchdown to Allen Robinson and a successful two-point conversion brought the game to what would end up being the final score, 24-21.
Bortles was asked afterward if missing the long throws downfield bothered him psychologically. He just gets locked into his receiver and apparently doesn’t spot Kareem Jackson, who was sitting right there on the route.
Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles threw for 265 yards, but as often happens Bortles and the Jaguars were playing from behind for much of the game. From there, the Texans utilised the play-action fake with the TE Stephen Anderson running across the middle to generate an easy completion and a TD, which put the Texans two scores up. One of his better throws of the whole year tied the game up at 7-7. The Texans’ pass defense entered the game ranked second in the league, allowing an average of 191 yards per game.
Their success paired with the work of Derek Carr, who has 17 touchdowns and just three interceptions this season, will test a Houston defense that has been the strength of the team this season. Bortles responded the ensuing drive with a touchdown strike to Julius Thomas.
Why did the Jaguars lose another game? After the Texans’ victory over the Tennessee Titans in early October, Osweiler addressed the media, acknowledging that the game could have easily gone the other way. “We just didn’t play as well as we needed to”.
This was just an terrible effort from Bortles. “The safeties have tackled when it’s gotten to the safeties, and that’s a good thing”.
Bradley is heeding the don’t-get-caught-up-in-everything-else approach himself. It dropped Bradley’s record to 14-43 in four seasons and prompted even the most loyal supporters to question why owner Shad Khan hasn’t made a change.
